Get rid of jumping off
What to do if the dog is too “gorgeous”?
Dogs express their affection with joyful jumping. While greeting each other is not a problem, people do not always find the behavior pleasant. If the clothes are dirty or if they fall, the fun stops. In order for the dog to understand why it should refrain from doing what it means to be nice, it needs a sure instinct. Simply ranting straight away will not bring success – after all, the dog is not aware of any guilt. It is better to ignore the start completely. Every form of reaction is a sense of achievement for the dog, because he gets what he wants to achieve with the gesture: attention. Instead, try teaching the animal a substitute act, such as “sitting”. If he receives enough praise and caresses for it, the jumping loses its charm.
Weaning measures
There are a number of tips around that supposedly quickly get the dog out of jumping. So you should step on the animal’s paws as soon as it starts to jump. Even if this measure proves to be effective, the use of force is out of the question from an ethical point of view. Pushing away or gesturing with the arms is also no solution: the four-legged friend feels even more incited. Only the timely, non-aggressive lifting of a knee may have the correct signal effect. The dog just can’t get close to the body and gives up on doing. Gripping the paws with both hands can also quickly become uncomfortable for the dog if he has to remain in the male position for longer.
Offer alternatives
Offer the animal an alternative to greeting it by kneeling down and petting it. The dog learns by getting recognition on the ground. Alternatively, you can play throwing sticks with the four-legged friend so that it can exercise its urge to move in this way and not by jumping up. The combination of ignoring and praising will, with a lot of patience and consistency, cause the dog to lose interest in jumping.
